The maiden. Action misfortune.

Thunder over the lake: the image of THE MARRYING MAIDEN. Thus the superior man understands the transitory and knows the defects.

Marry as sister - cripple can walk. Fortune.

The maiden is married as a concubine. Like a lame person who can still walk, going forward brings good fortune — accepting one's proper place brings success.

Nine second

One-eyed can see - hermit's perseverance.

Seeing with one eye. Favorable for the perseverance of a hermit — though imperfect, one can abide in peace.

Six third

Marry as handmaid - return as wife. Wait.

She who should be the principal wife becomes a concubine. She should return and wait — without proper status, words have no effect.

Nine fourth

Delayed marriage - waiting for right time.

The marriage is delayed. The delay is due to waiting for the right time — acting when the time is ripe.

Six fifth

Emperors daughter married - plain dress.

The emperor Yi gives his daughter in marriage. Her finery is not as splendid as that of her attendants. The moon is nearly full but not yet full. Good fortune — inner beauty needs no outward adornment.

Six above

Empty basket, bleeding sheep - nothing good.

The woman carries an empty basket. The man stabs a sheep but sees no blood. The sacrifice is incomplete — empty and without substance, nothing is favorable.
